JAPPY 

 

JAPPY is a filmmaker and playwright based in Birmingham, England.

She began her filmmaking career under the BBC New Creatives scheme in 2020, where she wrote and created her first short film, Kesh.

Some of her most recent film work as a writer-director includes: The Two Artist (2021),a multi language short film, which has recently been screened at the UK Asian Film Festival (2023) and won ‘Best International Short Film’ at White Unicorn International Film Festival (An IMDb Award Listing Qualifier); More than just spots (2021) an audio drama, based on experiences of hormonal acne, which has won Best Narrative Audio Story (Any genre) at Echonation Audio and Film Festival (2022).

 JAPPY has assisted on various film sets as a ‘Production Assistant’ which includes a Shrewsbury Council funded short film based on highlighting violence against women in the night time economy (2023); two films for West Mercia Women’s Aid (Dear Rose and Who Am I Anymore? 2022) which highlighted domestic violence; BFI funded short film, Barricade (2022) and the Birmingham 2022 Festival short film, Inhale, Exhale.

JAPPY has recently delved into the world of theatre. Her first short play called 'Psychic Bella' became a Finalist at the Amplified Competition 2024 and performed at the Birmingham Hippodrome. 

 

In 2019, JAPPY joined Azaad Arts as an Artistic Director. Azaad Arts, (founded by Rupinder Kaur) aims to explore traditional and contemporary arts within South Asia, connecting strands of film, theatre, art and literature together within the diaspora. Their recent work includes producing the film, The Two Artist (2021).

JAPPY seeks to create meaningful and impactful stories; showcasing her experiences, observations, faith and South Asian culture through multiple mediums such as: film, literature, audio and theatre.
